A mummified newt

This week, we finally had the time to enjoy the newts – who are very active after their hibernation – in Old Botanical Garden here in Göttingen.

IMG_4679 copySad but true: We didn`t only meet living newts. The following pictures are showing a mummified newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris). The poor little animal died and became dried just right on the waterfront of a pond. He was lying on his back. We couldn`t find out for what reason this newt died. The first picture shows the original position:
